My response draws upon my fascination with the folklore and use of plants, and in this instance riverside plants along the Lagan. I selected nine images to produce three triptychs depicting an unending cycle of curiosity, identification and meaning making through aesthetic recalibration.
Fiona Ní Mhaoilir is an Irish visual artist who lives and works in Belfast. Her art practice and research is concerned with systems of control within cultural production on the island of Ireland and further afield. Her work is held in both public and private collections in Ireland, the UK, Spain, and USA.
Since 2017 she has produced a large body of multidisciplinary artworks concerning the Lagan river and its environs. Some of her artistic output from this project research includes Giant Hogweed, photographic work for online publications such as Abridged (2020), Siren, a short film commissioned by DAS (2021), and Siver Moon 1, an original first edition print in Northern Ireland’s Civil Service Art Collection (2021).
